WHO WE ARE
Stel (the Stelco salaried retirees group), DIPAC (the DuPont Invista retirees group) and BPG (Bell Pensioners’ Group) met in 2005 and agreed to form an umbrella organization, the Canadian Federation of Pensioners (CFP). These formally organized retiree groups brought to CFP their collective knowledge and experience in order to have maximum impact in effectively advocating on behalf of all retired members of private defined benefit pension plans.
These retired pension plan members are a significant and growing stakeholder group and at the time were not recognized in pension law legislation nor had any say in the development of these pension laws. Through the efforts of CFP, it is widely accepted by governments today that retired members are indeed a unique and significant stakeholder group.
Since 2005, CFP has been recognized as the leading advocacy group for retired pension plan members as it continues to call for improvements in pension legislation and regulations and other laws that affect the financial security of pensions. CFP also advocates on the need for better communications between the plan sponsors, pension administrators and retired members; and for more proactive and effective government pension regulators in Canada.
Currently, CFP advocates on behalf of more than 150,000 retired pension plan members.
